A. General provisions
1. Introductory provisions
1.1. The purpose of this document, “Rules for the Use of Cards”, is to provide a complete and unambiguous set of terms and conditions governing the use of cards issued by eduverify in Austria. The rules also define the rights and obligations of cardholders, issuing partners, third parties and eduverify.
1.2. These rules apply to all cards issued by eduverify.
1.3. These rules describe the method and conditions for the use of the cards in Austria.
1.4. The use of discounts abroad is subject to the terms and conditions of the foreign providers and the relevant legal provisions.
1.5. Every cardholder, every school and every eduverify partner issuing cards is obliged to comply with these rules when issuing cards, using cards and claiming discounts and benefits. All parties obliged under sentence 1 shall familiarise themselves with these rules in advance and, by participating in the issue and use of the cards, declare that they have thoroughly familiarised themselves with the rules and undertake to comply with them.
2. Definition
eduverify = eduverify GmbH, defined in Article 1 as the issuer of these rules.
Rules = these rules governing the use of the cards.
Policy = Privacy Policy, which can be found here.

Card = any ISIC, ITIC or IYTC card that may be issued by eduverify or another authorised distribution partner in accordance with these rules. The distribution channels for the card are generally as follows:
- Cards issued to educational institutions
- Cards issued by issuing offices
- Cards issued via other distribution partners
- Direct sales by eduverify

Digital card = a virtual card displayed in the ISIC App mobile application.
Plastic card = refers to a plastic card that can be issued alongside a digital card, displays its selected parameters and can be equipped with an RFID chip.
Validity extension = extension of the validity for a new period, always within the framework of the basic validity period.
The basic validity period = is 1 year from the date of issue of the card.
ISIC App profile = the cardholder’s personal account in the ISIC App mobile application.
ISIC App = Name of the mobile application used to display the card and other optional features.
Cardholder = the owner and user of a card.
Provider = a company that sells goods or services via the distribution channels listed below and is interested in offering cardholders price advantages in the form of discounts or other benefits.
B. Cards
3. Cards
3.1. These rules apply to the following cards:
3.1.1. Cards issued by the internationally active ISIC Association:
- ISIC (International Student Identity Card)
- ITIC (International Teacher Identity Card)
- IYTC (International Youth Travel Card)
3.2. Further information and specifications regarding the cards can be found in this Section B, specifically in Articles 4 to 14 of these rules.
4. ISIC
4.1. Basic specifications
The ISIC is the only globally recognised pupil and student card that serves to confirm status in accordance with these rules and to claim the corresponding discounts and benefits.
4.2. The ISIC may be obtained by pupils and students of all school types, higher vocational schools or universities, as well as other educational institutions. Details regarding the status of pupils and the requirements for issuing the ISIC are set out in Article 4.12 of these regulations. The ISIC has no age restriction.
4.3. Prices for ISIC cards may vary depending on the sales channel.
4.4. Validity: The ISIC is valid for 1 year from the date of issue. Example: 01/2026 – 01/2027.
4.5. Extension of validity: Depending on the distribution channel, the validity of the card may be extended, always within the framework of the original period of validity. The validity of the same ISIC card is therefore not limited to a single validity period and may total several years, but only for as long as the holder continuously meets the terms of use of the ISIC card and the card is duly renewed.
4.6. Discounts and benefits can only be claimed with valid cards.
4.7. If a discount or benefit is granted solely on the basis of student status, the provider may verify the holder’s status electronically and thereby determine their entitlement to a discount or benefit.
4.8. Rules for obtaining the ISIC
4.8.1. These provisions apply to Austrian and foreign nationals, regardless of where they are studying in Austria or abroad. There is no age restriction for applying for an ISIC.
4.8.2. Attendance at the educational institution must amount to at least 15 hours per week for a minimum of 12 weeks.
- Students currently attending a state or private higher education institution.
- Individuals attending a school in the primary, lower secondary or upper secondary level (Volksschule, Mittelschule, Allgemeinbildende Höhere Schule (AHS), Berufsbildende Mittlere oder Höhere Schule (BMS/BHS) or recognised private institution) during the current school year. This also includes special schools and evening schools.
- Individuals who are undergoing vocational training and attending a vocational (technical) school.
- Individuals attending a language course. The above-mentioned hour requirement also applies here.
- Students on leave of absence with a certificate of enrolment.
- Students at a preparatory college with a certificate of enrolment.
- Doctoral students with a certificate of enrolment.
- Trainees (as part of a two-phase academic training programme).
4.8.3. For example, the following persons are not eligible to receive an international ISIC card:
- Those not eligible for an ISIC card include participants in programmes that do not lead to vocational training, such as: guest students, participants in adult education centre (VHS) courses, FsJ/FöJ participants, individuals on voluntary placements or work placements (provided they are not students), and au pairs, who are unfortunately not eligible for an ISIC card.
5. ITIC
5.1. Basic specifications
The ITIC card is the only globally recognised card for teachers and is used to access discounts in the areas of travel, culture, sport and leisure.
5.2 The ITIC card may be purchased by teachers from all types of schools, higher vocational colleges or universities, as well as other educational institutions. Details regarding the teacher’s status and the requirements for issuing the ITIC card are set out in Article 4.12 of these regulations. The ITIC card has no age restriction.
5.3. Prices for ITIC cards may vary depending on the distribution channel.
5.4 Validity: The ISIC is valid for 1 year from the date of issue. Example: 01/2026 – 01/2027.
5.5. Extension of validity: Depending on the distribution channel, the validity of the card may be extended, always within the framework of the original period of validity. The validity of the same ITIC card is therefore not limited to a single validity period and may total several years, but only for as long as the holder continuously meets the terms of use of the ITIC card and the card is duly renewed.
5.6. Rules for obtaining an ITIC card
5.6.1. These provisions apply to Austrian and foreign applicants, regardless of their place of residence in Austria or abroad.
5.6.2 All teaching staff at a recognised educational institution that is registered with and recognised by the competent authority of the respective country are eligible. These include, for example, primary schools, comprehensive schools, grammar schools, universities of applied sciences, universities, vocational schools or language schools.
6. IYTC
6.1. Basic specifications
6.1.1. The IYTC card is the only globally recognised youth card and is used to claim discounts in the areas of travel, culture, sport and leisure.
6.1.2. Prices for IYTC cards may vary depending on the sales channel.
6.1.3. Validity: The IYTC is valid for 1 year from the date of issue. Example: 01/2026 – 01/2027.
6.2. Extension of validity: Depending on the distribution channel, the validity of the card may be extended, always within the original validity period. The validity of the same IYTC card is therefore not limited to a single validity period and may total several years, but only for as long as the holder continuously meets the terms of use of the IYTC card and the card is duly renewed.
6.3. Rules for obtaining an IYTC card
6.3.1. These provisions apply to Austrian and foreign nationals, regardless of where they are studying in Austria or abroad.
6.3.2. The IYTC card may be applied for by anyone aged 30 or under. The card must in all cases be issued before the applicant reaches the age of 31.
C. Rules of use
7. General rules of use, information on digital content
7.1. The cards may only be used by regular holders who have received them on the basis of an application, a contract or an order from eduverify or an authorised issuer.
7.2. Persons applying for a card to prove a specific status (e.g. student, member of an organisation) undertake to apply for this card only if they fulfil this status in accordance with these regulations. The unauthorised application for a card to prove a specific status constitutes a breach of these regulations. If the card is nevertheless issued, it shall be cancelled and the holder shall be liable to pay for any resulting damage. A school which, in breach of these regulations, makes a false declaration regarding the status of the applicant shall be liable for any resulting damage.
7.3. The cardholder is not authorised to duplicate the card in any way or to make a copy of it.
7.4. The holder may contact eduverify with any enquiries, questions or other suggestions using the contact details provided here.
7.5. eduverify shall not be liable for the loss, damage or destruction of plastic cards. The cardholder is obliged to protect the plastic card and keep it in a safe place.
7.6. The rules for plastic cards apply equally to digital cards.
7.7. The holder undertakes to have an up-to-date system for digital cards and to immediately upload all available updates to the device system and the relevant applications.
7.8. Protection of cards and digital card data
The holder shall protect the card, including the data for the digital version, against loss and misuse. The holder undertakes to report any loss of the access data for the digital version of the card or any detected misuse thereof to eduverify without delay.
7.9. The holder is not authorised to lend the card or pass it on to third parties.
7.10. The cardholder is not authorised to disclose access details or other data relating to the card, including the application for displaying the digital card in the ISIC App.
7.11. The holder is obliged to install all available updates to the ISIC App without delay.
7.12. The holder acknowledges that, unless otherwise stated, the card is primarily a digital card with the option to receive a plastic card, and that therefore the option to display it in the ISIC App is an integral part of the card which cannot be separately refused for the digital card.
7.13. The cardholder is obliged to protect their login details and not to disclose them to third parties; not to open hyperlinks in messages from unknown senders – nor in messages from known senders that appear suspicious at first glance; not to download unverified or illegal software; to use antivirus software on their device; and to change their passwords regularly and update the software as required.
7.14. Use of the card entails the receipt of necessary technical notifications regarding the card and/or associated functions. These notifications cannot be declined unless the card is cancelled in accordance with these Terms of Use. Technical notifications may relate to the card’s functions, the digital card, the ISIC app, changes to legal documents or other important information.
8. Loss or discovery of the plastic card
8.1. The person who finds the card is obliged to hand it over to the authorised issuer or eduverify. If you find a card, please contact us or the educational institution indicated on the card.
Send the card to the following address: eduverify GmbH, Marxergasse 24/2, 1030 Vienna. The card will then be handed over to its rightful owner.
8.2. The holder who loses the card undertakes to act immediately in accordance with these provisions. The same applies in the event of theft of the card.
8.3. The misuse of a lost card, failure to report a lost card, or the use of a card reported as lost constitutes a breach of these rules and may cause damage to eduverify.
8.4. Loss of a card issued online via the eduverify web application:
If a plastic card was issued alongside the digital card, the loss must be reported to eduverify immediately. No replacement card will be issued. If the cardholder wishes to obtain a new plastic card, they may order a new card online. A standard fee (regular price) applies for the issue of a new card.
8.5. Provisions regarding digital content
Data on the functionality of digital content, including technical protection measures:
- The functions of the ISIC App and the ISIC App profile constitute digital content and are therefore made available only to the cardholder.
- To access the full functionality, it is necessary to have a device or browser that meets the minimum requirements specified by the operator of the ISIC App.
- The ISIC App Profile can only be viewed within the ISIC App.
- eduverify accepts no responsibility for malfunctions resulting from the lack of suitable hardware or recommended software.
- A sufficiently fast internet connection is required to use the ISIC app and the ISIC app profile; eduverify accepts no responsibility for malfunctions caused by a slow internet connection.
- We cannot guarantee 100% uninterrupted functionality. The operator of the ISIC app reserves the right to carry out routine maintenance, which will generally be announced in advance. Furthermore, eduverify is not responsible for server or internet outages or attacks by third parties but will always endeavour to resolve the problem. eduverify is entitled to intervene in the event of unforeseen circumstances and to suspend the functionality of the content, the ISIC app and the ISIC app profile for a limited period.

The cardholder is entitled to contact eduverify if necessary to report changes, questions or enquiries regarding the card.
If eduverify is not the issuer, the cardholder must contact the issuer.
The cardholder is obliged to contact eduverify using the contact details provided above, where this is stipulated in these rules or other legal texts issued by eduverify.
10. Issuance and distribution of cards in general
10.1. Cards are issued by eduverify or another institution, where specified in these rules.
10.2. eduverify reserves the right to review all conditions for the provision of the card and, in the event of a dispute, to make a final decision on any claim, including the right to exclude any holder from using the card.
10.3. The holder confirms that the issue of cards by eduverify is subject to the following legal documents, with which the holder was familiar at the time of purchasing the card:
10.3.1. General Terms and Conditions for Online Card Orders – a document governing the rights and obligations when purchasing a card from eduverify, available here.
10.3.2. Rules for the Use of Cards – this document sets out the obligations regarding the use of the card, (collectively referred to as ‘Legal Documents’).
11. Consumer information
11.1. eduverify is under no obligation to issue a card to an applicant who does not meet the requirements for the issue of a specific type of card, as these cards serve as proof of the holder’s specific status.
11.2. Only natural persons may be cardholders. The card may be purchased by a natural or legal person; however, the contract is always concluded in favour of a specific natural person.
11.3. The card is a product of eduverify intended for interested parties. The contractual relationship is always governed by the relevant agreements, and the subject matter of the purchase contract is the identification card. In the case of a digital card, the subject matter of the purchase contract may also include digital content. In addition to the card, benefits may be claimed; however, these are not the subject matter of the purchase contract concluded with eduverify and there is no entitlement to them. eduverify is entitled to amend the range of benefits, discounts and privileges, to withdraw them or to amend the conditions for claiming them.
11.4. eduverify shall not be liable for any damage arising during the use of the card or the associated benefits.
11.5. As the issuer of cards, eduverify is not always the seller. The purchase relationship is governed by the contract or the General Terms and Conditions of the seller, who may in various cases be eduverify, the educational institution or another person. If eduverify is the seller, the General Terms and Conditions available here apply.
11.6. eduverify is entitled to cancel the card and demand its return if:
- the holder has provided false information in order to obtain it,
- the holder has breached these rules or has otherwise repeatedly breached eduverify’s terms and conditions.
11.7. Entitlement to a card is subject to fulfilment of the conditions set out in these rules. The cardholder acknowledges that the conditions for issuing ISIC, ITIC and IYTC cards are defined on the basis of the international guidelines for the issuance of cards by the ISIC Association. Exceptions to these conditions may only be granted in cases approved in writing and for important reasons discussed with eduverify. There is no legal entitlement to the granting of an exception; this may only be granted for valid reasons. By accepting these rules, the cardholder declares that all data and information provided is truthful, complete and correct, and that they meet the requirements for the issue of the card ordered. This also applies to the cardholder’s legal representative or to persons acting on behalf of the cardholder or giving their consent.
11.8. We are neither willing nor obliged to participate in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.
11.9. The consumer has the right to contact eduverify at here.
E. Other rights, obligations and complaint handling
12. Validity of the card
12.1. If the holder purchases a card from eduverify as the seller, they confirm that the contract is concluded for a fixed period, namely the card’s validity period. The buyer can view the card’s validity period on their card or in the ISIC app.
12.2. In general, the card may be used for the duration of its validity.
13. Termination of services associated with the card/return of the card
13.1. A cardholder who wishes to terminate use of the card before the expiry of its validity undertakes to take the following steps:
13.1.1. Cards issued online via the eduverify web application
The holder is obliged to send a written notice of termination to the registered office of eduverify; the terms and conditions regarding termination are available here.
13.2. The cardholder acknowledges that once the notice of termination has been delivered, it cannot be withdrawn and the card will be destroyed. The cardholder is not entitled to retain a copy of the card or to use data from the card.
13.3. Request to cancel the card or cease the processing of personal data for the purpose of card administration: The cardholder may at any time request the termination of the use of the card (plastic, digital card) or the associated benefits and discounts. They may also request the deletion of all their personal data stored for the purpose of card use. In the event of such a request, eduverify shall proceed in the same manner as for the submission of a notification in accordance with the Terms and Conditions and shall contact the cardholder in this regard.
13.4. eduverify is entitled to terminate the provision of services in connection with the use of the card as follows:
13.4.1. eduverify is only entitled to terminate the contract concluded with the account holder if this is provided for by law or in the contract itself.
13.4.2. eduverify is entitled to withdraw from the contract and cease the provision of services, provided this is permitted under applicable law and the contracting party materially breaches the contract, these rules or any other legal document. A material breach by the contracting party includes, amongst other things:
- Breach of these rules or any other legal document forming part of the rules, or of a contract entered into,
- a threat to the eduverify information system by the holder or originating from their device,
- failure to comply with the holder’s security obligations in relation to the device on which the card is located,
- Misuse or circumvention of these Rules or other legal documents,
- false or misleading information provided by the holder,
- Causing damage to eduverify by the holder or any other cooperating person.
13.5. In the event of termination of the provision of services by eduverify, the cardholder shall have no entitlement to a refund of the purchase price of the card or to reimbursement of any other costs incurred by them.
14. Resolution and handling of complaints
14.1. The holder is entitled to submit a complaint to eduverify.
14.2. eduverify has appointed a person authorised to receive complaints. Complaints may be addressed to this person or here.
14.3. In the complaint, the holder must provide the following details in particular:
14.3.1. The subject of the complaint;
14.3.2. The grounds for the complaint;
14.3.3. A proposal for resolving the complaint;
14.3.4. Identification and contact details.
14.4. eduverify always confirms receipt of a complaint electronically.
14.5. In the event of a repeat complaint, the designated person is responsible for discussing the complaint with their line manager.
14.6. eduverify shall process complaints without undue delay, but no later than within 30 calendar days.
14.7. The data subject shall be informed of the manner in which the complaint is being processed electronically within the time limit specified in the preceding sentence at the latest.
14.8. Where necessary for the effective exercise of the user’s rights, eduverify will inform the user of further rights.
15. Amendments to legal documents
15.1. eduverify reserves the right to amend these rules and other legal texts as necessary.
15.2. The concluded contract may only be amended on the basis of an agreement between the contracting parties (e.g. through an agreement between eduverify and the buyer), but also by amending the contractual documents if the seller, e.g. eduverify, is authorised to do so by the concluded contract.
15.3. eduverify is entitled to unilaterally amend the legal documents defined in these rules as follows:
15.3.1. Amendments to legal documents are possible in particular where applicable legislation changes, where amendments are necessary for technical reasons, where amendments are required due to product changes (provision of new features, modification of existing features, etc.) or for other important reasons.
15.3.2. The amendment shall only take effect for newly concluded contracts, unless the cardholder has been informed of the amendment and has not notified eduverify within seven days of the notification that they do not agree to the amendment and wish to terminate their use of the card.
15.3.3. eduverify will notify the cardholder of the amendment to the legal documents electronically by email to the cardholder’s email address.
15.3.4. In the event of notification of a request to terminate the use of the card due to a unilateral amendment to the legal documents, the cardholder shall not be entitled to a refund of the card price, unless the amendment entails a restriction of services directly related to the use of the card as a digital identification document and for which a corresponding contract has been concluded between the holder and the card issuer.

16. Final Provisions
16.1. By purchasing a card, all holders undertake to comply with these rules, even if the card was not purchased from the seller eduverify.
16.2. These rules are available at the rds head office and on the website.
