The St. Margarethen quarry is one of the largest and oldest quarries in Europe. The valuable St. Margarethen limestone was already used in ancient times. Since 2001, the St. Margarethen Quarry has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site together with the Fertõ-Neusiedler See region.
The impressive walls created by mining now serve as a backdrop for lavish opera performances, works of art by renowned artists, and exploratory tours into the world of geology.
